The Biomechatronics Lab is featured in a Science News article titled, “For robots, artificial intelligence gets physical,” written by Meghan Rosen.  Our robot testbed was also featured on the cover!

The article highlights Dr. Randall Hellman’s haptics-driven reinforcement learning research, in collaboration with Dr. Cem Tekin (Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bilkent University, Turkey) and Dr. Mihaela van der Schaar (Electrical Engineering, UCLA).

The research is partially supported by NSF award #1208519 / #1463960, “NRI-Small: Context-Driven Haptic Inquiry of Objects Based on Task Requirements for Artificial Grasp and Manipulation,” as part of the National Robotics Initiative.
